The old Smolnik fish farm has been in operation since 1991 and is located along the Lobnica River, which flows through a protected area of the Pohorje primeval forest for most of its course. This unique location provides exceptional oxygen-rich water quality, creating ideal conditions for breeding top-quality Pohorje trout.
Cultivation of first-class brown trout
Our fish farm breeds rainbow trout, which are known for their excellent taste, fast growth and adaptability to different living conditions. The fish need clean, cool and oxygen-rich water with a temperature between 8 and 18 °C, which is provided by the direct inflow from the Lobnice river. The Lobnica originates in the protected Pohorje primeval forest, which means that our trout grows in some of the cleanest water in Slovenia.
Smolnik's rich history and natural beauty
The valley of the Lobnice and Smolnik rivers is not only a paradise for fish farming, but also a place rich in history. In the past, the water from the Lobnice was crucial for powering the mills and sawmills that supported the development of the glazing and woodworking trades in the area. How to reach us?
From the centre of Ruš (15km from Maribor towards Koroška), follow the direction Smolnik. In the roundabout, take the exit Lovrenc na Pohorju, then immediately after the roundabout turn left towards Pohorje – Šumik and drive for 2km, you will see an old fish farm on the left.
