Hiking

Mariborsko Pohorje is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts, offering many well-marked trails of varying difficulty. Hiking trails wind through forests, past alpine pastures, mountain streams and mountain huts, which line up from Mariborsko Pohorje to the Kops in the sequence of Koča Jelka, Mariborska koča, Ruška koča, Koča Cojzarica, Koča na Klopnem vrh, Koča na Pesku, Rogla, Koča na Pesniku, etc.

Cycling

Mariborsko Pohorje offers many opportunities for mountain biking.
The area is intertwined with marked cycling trails of different difficulty levels, suitable for all types of cyclists – from beginners to professionals, for whom there is a specially prepared trail that also serves once a year for the World Downhill Championships.
In winter, snow biking (fatbiking) is also popular, where visitors explore the snowy landscape on special bikes with fat tyres.
On request, we can organise E-bike tours Pohorje (e-culinary tour), a 33 km long route by E-bike, finishing at our Old Fish Farm with a Pohorje BBQ FOOD TRIBUTE.

Skiing and winter activities

In winter, Maribor Pohorje becomes a popular ski resort.

13 minutes or 8km drive from Stara Ribogojnica is the largest ski resort in NE Slovenia called “PISKER”. You can buy a ski pass at the location. There is a nice café “COJZA” on the ski slope, which offers food and drinks in winter.

The Mariborsko Pohorje Ski Resort (www.visitpohorje.si) is the largest ski area in Slovenia, famous for its various ski slopes for beginners and experienced skiers. In addition to skiing, Pohorje offers other activities (sledding, cross-country skiing, etc.).

A walk in nature

For those who want to relax in nature and enjoy walks, Pohorje offers many marked trails and paths, such as the path to the Small and Large Šumik Waterfalls, located in a protected area of the primeval forest, the Lovrenské Lakes, the Black Lake, the Silent Lake, or serious hikes of up to 60 km. Visitors can explore forests, streams in unspoilt nature.

Zorb and zipline

For adrenaline enthusiasts, Pohorje also offers zorbing and ziplines. Zorbing is a fun activity where visitors descend into a large transparent balloon and roll down a slope like a “ball”. The zipline allows you to fly over the valley from a high point, offering incredible views of the surrounding area.

Mountain huts and cuisine

Pohorje is not only a sports centre, but also a place where visitors can stop and enjoy local cuisine. At various points in Pohorje there are mountain huts(Jelka Hut, Maribor Hut, Ruška Hut, Cojzarica Hut, Šumik Hut, Klopne Top Hut, Pesek Hut, Pesnik Hut, etc.) where visitors can enjoy local specialities such as Pohorski pisker, mushroom soup with buckwheat groats, roast pork, Pohorska trout, various types of bread and other Slovene delicacies.

Wellness and relaxation

Pohorje also offers various opportunities for relaxation and wellness activities. There are wellness centres (Hotel Bellevue, Hotel Bolfenk, Sport Park Ruše) where visitors can enjoy massages, saunas and other relaxation therapies, as well as swimming. They are designed for those who want to enjoy a quiet rest after outdoor activities.

Water sports

Apartments Stara rybogojnica Smolnik are located 5 minutes’ walk from the Ruše Sports Park, which is close to the Drava River. It offers various water sports such as kayaking, rafting or fishing. The Drava also offers opportunities for pleasant walks by the water, where visitors can relax and enjoy nature.

Detailed flora and fauna research

For nature lovers, Pohorje is a great place to observe plants and animals. The area is home to many wild animals, including deer, roe deer and birds such as birds of prey. Visitors can enjoy nature watching or join guided excursions with natural history themes.

Mariborsko Pohorje is therefore a destination that offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, from peaceful hiking trips to adrenaline-fuelled adventures that will satisfy both nature lovers and sports enthusiasts.
